Allan May is a prominent angel investor based in Redwood City, California, with a focus on early-stage medical device and life science startups. He co-founded Life Science Angels, the largest angel organization in the U.S. dedicated solely to these sectors, which has invested over $35 million in 32 companies since 2005. The organization has attracted more than $700 million in follow-on venture capital and achieved five favorable exits. Throughout his career, Allan has been a founder, chairman, CEO, or investor in over 50 medtech and biotech startups, including Athenagen (now Comentis), Nanostim, nSpine, and BioMimedica. He frequently lectures at universities, conferences, and government programs on trends and developments affecting early-stage biotech and medtech investing. Allan co-chaired Singularity University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Track at its 2011 FutureMed Program and is a member of the editorial board of Elsevier Windhover’s In Vivo magazine.
