Amit Gupta

Overview

Amit Gupta is an angel investor based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. He has held leadership roles at multiple high-growth companies, including Qualcomm, INQ Mobile, Lookout, and Benchling. Amit combines concentrated, early-stage investing with a passion for helping technical founders with company building. In some cases, that materializes into a role helping in the trenches, and in others, a more passive, help-as-needed voice. Amit has helped countless companies directly and as an advisor to Y Combinator Continuity. Amit's investment focus is on early-stage technology startups, particularly in the seed and early-stage venture stages. He is actively involved in investment management, portfolio construction, and capital raising across U.S. and Asia credit strategies. Amit's 32+ years in the credit markets include investing in public and private credit markets in Asia and the U.S. He has successfully built private lending businesses in multiple jurisdictions, including the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, India, and China. He co-founded Clearwater Capital Partners, one of Asia's pre-eminent credit investing platforms, in 2001, which was then acquired by Fiera in 2018. Prior to founding Clearwater, Amit worked for nine years in the credit markets doing research, analysis, making investments, and writing loans at Goldman Sachs, Peregrine Fixed Income, and ICICI. Amit holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications with Honors from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Amit is fluent in English and Hindi. Outside the office, Amit dedicates time as a member of the Investment Committee at the Winsor School in Boston.
