Anand Piramal

Overview

Anand Piramal is an Indian entrepreneur and Executive Director of the Piramal Group, overseeing its financial services and real estate divisions. Under his leadership, Piramal Finance has transformed into one of India's largest and most diversified non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), offering services in affordable home lending, SME lending, construction finance, and digital embedded finance. The company has provided loans to over 5 million customers, including more than 2.5 million 'life-changing' loans to underserved communities for affordable housing and MSMEs, aiming to empower semi-urban and rural communities with accessible credit. In addition to his role at Piramal Finance, Anand leads Piramal Realty, the group's real estate arm. The company is developing over 11 million square feet of residential and commercial space in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with projects such as Piramal Aranya, Piramal Mahalaxmi, Piramal Revanta, Piramal Vaikunth, and Piramal Agastya. Piramal Realty has attracted significant investments from global firms like Warburg Pincus and Goldman Sachs, solidifying its position in the market. Anand's contributions have been recognized with accolades such as the Hurun Real Estate Unicorn of the Year Award (2017) and the Young Business Leader Award by Hello! Magazine (2018). Anand also founded Piramal eSwasthya, a rural healthcare initiative that later became Piramal Swasthya, India's largest private primary healthcare initiative. The organization employs over 2,260 people and more than 140 doctors, serving around 25,000 patients daily across 28 states through health hotlines, mobile medical units, and telemedicine centers. Since its inception, Piramal Swasthya has impacted over 129.5 million lives. Anand holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School. In 2024, he was recognized as one of India’s '40 under 40' young leaders by The Economic Times and Fortune India.
