Established in July 2007, Bena Properties is the real estate investment and development arm of Cham Holding, making it the largest private real estate company in Syria. The firm boasts a diverse portfolio that includes hotels, resorts, master-planned communities, and mixed-use centers, with a predominant focus on hospitality projects. Bena Properties has partnered with the Syrian government to enhance the local hospitality sector and aims to be the partner of choice for both governmental and international investors. The company's strategic approach involves developing large-scale projects in prime locations across major Syrian cities, including Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia, and Tartous. By 2013, Bena Properties had planned to expand its hospitality portfolio to over 1,200 keys and 26 food and beverage outlets. Notable projects include the Yasmeen Rotana Hotel in Damascus and the Taj Halab Project in Aleppo, both developed in collaboration with international partners. Despite its significant role in Syria's real estate sector, Bena Properties has faced international sanctions. The European Union imposed sanctions in 2011, citing the company's control by Rami Makhlouf and its financial support to the Syrian regime. These sanctions have impacted the company's international operations and financial transactions, particularly in jurisdictions aligned with these measures.
