Brainforest

Overview

Brainforest is a non-profit venture platform dedicated to accelerating innovative solutions for forest conservation and climate action. Co-founded by WWF Switzerland and enabled by the Migros Pioneer Fund, it focuses on unlocking the full climate potential of forests through entrepreneurial approaches. The platform operates globally, with its headquarters in Zürich, Switzerland, and collaborates with a network of forest experts, corporate partners, and investors to scale impactful ventures. The platform's strategy includes three main focus areas: 1) Measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) of forest carbon using high-resolution remote sensing and machine learning; 2) Connecting the supply and demand of forest carbon in a trustworthy manner; and 3) Developing innovative financing mechanisms to unlock the full value of forests. By 2023, Brainforest aims to have mobilized over CHF 500 million in new capital globally for additional forests, significantly contributing to climate stabilization. Brainforest's venture program rigorously validates solutions to ensure they are scalable, impactful, and aligned with its mission. The selected ventures become part of the Brainforest portfolio, with the platform collaborating closely over the following years to scale their impact. The platform's approach combines philanthropy, science, technology, and entrepreneurship to address the complex challenges of forest conservation and climate change mitigation.
