Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) is a government-owned financial institution in Nepal, established on March 18, 1991, under the Citizen Investment Trust Act, 1990. It operates as an autonomous body, providing various savings and investment programs to encourage citizens to save and invest, thereby contributing to the nation's economic development. CIT manages retirement schemes, unit schemes, and mutual fund programs for both domestic and foreign investors. CIT's investment portfolio includes fixed deposits, loans to organized institutions, shares of banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies, infrastructure projects under Public-Private Partnership models, and government bonds. The trust is listed under the 'Investment' sector on the Nepal Stock Exchange, with a market capitalization of NPR 1.18 trillion and a paid-up capital of NPR 6.8 billion. CIT's mission is to build a safe society and develop a dynamic capital market through profitable investment of funds collected by operating various savings programs. Its objectives include increasing funds through savings and mutual fund programs, diversifying investment portfolios in secured sectors, and accelerating the growth and development of the capital market. The trust's head office is located in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, with branch offices in Biratnagar and Pokhara.
