Colin Wiel

Overview

Colin Wiel is an engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in artificial intelligence and technology. He co-founded Mynd, a tech-enabled platform for investing in single-family rentals, which was named the fastest-growing company in the Bay Area in 2020. Prior to Mynd, he co-founded Waypoint Homes, a pioneer in single-family rentals that raised over $3.5 billion, acquired more than 17,000 homes, and went public on the NYSE. Additionally, he co-founded Wildlife Works Carbon, a global leader in forest conservation through REDD carbon credits. Throughout his career, Wiel has been involved in various technical contributions, including designing an antilock braking system for commercial aircraft for Boeing, earning two U.S. patents. He has also co-architected the Java infrastructure for Charles Schwab’s online trading website and developed and taught the Java Servlet and JSP curriculum for UC Berkeley Extension. His entrepreneurial achievements have been recognized with a spot on Goldman Sachs' Top 100 Most Innovative Entrepreneurs and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Wiel's investment focus spans real estate and venture capital, with a particular emphasis on technology and media sectors. He has made angel investments in more than a dozen companies over the past five years and often remains actively involved in the companies in which he invests, currently serving on the boards of five companies. His strategic approach combines technical expertise with a passion for innovation and growth, aiming to drive value creation in the ventures he supports.
