Manulife | CQS Investment Management is a London-based multi-sector alternative credit manager specializing in credit, equity, and multi-asset strategies. The firm offers a range of investment solutions, including corporate credit (loans and bonds), asset-backed securities, collateralized loan obligations, convertible bonds, and structured credit. Their investors include pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, funds of funds, endowments and foundations, and private banks. In November 2023, Manulife Investment Management announced an agreement to acquire CQS, aiming to enhance access to complementary global investment solutions. The acquisition was completed on April 3, 2024, with CQS continuing to operate under its brand as part of Manulife Investment Management. The combined entity manages approximately US$13.5 billion in assets under management as of October 31, 2023. CQS was founded in 1999 by Michael Hintze, who serves as the Group Executive Chairman and Senior Investment Officer. Prior to establishing CQS, Hintze was European Head of Convertible Bonds at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and Head of UK Equity Trading and European Convertible Bond Trading at Goldman Sachs. Under his leadership, CQS has evolved into a global alternative credit platform, managing research-driven credit strategies over multiple market cycles and geographies.
