David Rusenko

Overview

David Rusenko is a French-born American entrepreneur and angel investor, best known as the co-founder and former CEO of Weebly, a drag-and-drop website-building platform. He co-founded Weebly in 2006 while studying at Pennsylvania State University's College of Information Sciences and Technology, aiming to make website creation accessible to non-programmers. Under his leadership, Weebly grew to serve over 45 million users and was acquired by Square (now Block, Inc.) in 2018 for $365 million. Following the acquisition, Rusenko served as General Manager of eCommerce at Square, overseeing the development and strategy of Square's eCommerce solutions. As an angel investor, Rusenko has supported a diverse range of technology startups, including Cruise, Zenefits, Parse, Cue, Exec, Eligible, Phil, KeepSafe, Churchkey, Streak, Incident Technologies, Adioso, and Huckleberry. His investments span various sectors such as software, mobile applications, and SaaS, with a focus on seed to Series A stages. Geographically, his investments have been concentrated in the United States and Mexico. Rusenko's contributions to entrepreneurship have been recognized with multiple honors, including selection to Forbes' '30 Under 30' lists in 2011 and 2012 and the Penn State Alumni Achievement Award in 2010, where he was the youngest recipient at the time. He has also been a principal supporter of Penn State Startup Week, playing a major role in the event's concept and growth and contributing a $400,000 gift that helped expand the program into a university-wide showcase of entrepreneurship engaging students across colleges. His philanthropic efforts reflect his commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs.
