DFCU was established in 1964 as a development finance company. The group's banking subsidiary, DFCU Bank, offers current, savings, and fixed deposit accounts, personal and corporate credit, equity finance, long-term development finance, leasing, working capital finance, trade finance, foreign exchange trading, money market transfers, and overdrafts. In addition to its banking operations, DFCU Group manages a growing real estate portfolio, including properties like DFCU House, which serves as the headquarters for both the group and the bank. The group's investment strategy focuses on sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, trade and commerce, communication and transport, building and construction, leisure, hotels and accommodation, home loans, real estate, education, health, tourism, mining, and other sectors. DFCU Group is regulated by the Uganda Securities Exchange, which sets and enforces listing and membership requirements and trading rules. The group's commitment to financial inclusion and transformation is evident through initiatives like the Agribusiness Development Centre, which supports farmer-based organizations, small and medium enterprises, and savings and credit cooperatives in becoming profitable and sustainable enterprises. This initiative has positively impacted over 28,000 individuals and entities, fostering the overall national agriculture value chain and enhancing the bankability of these organizations.
