Overview

DOEN Participaties is the impact investment arm of the DOEN Foundation, focusing on sustainable and socially inclusive enterprises. Over the past 25 years, it has become the largest impact investor in sustainable and social startups in the Netherlands. The foundation operates in pursuit of objectives that are based on the principle of 'invest where possible and subsidize where necessary'. DOEN Participaties invests directly in sustainable or socially inclusive startups with convertible loans or equity investments. Initial investments range from €50,000 to €500,000, with the possibility of follow-up investments. The focus is on early-stage companies in sectors such as sustainable energy, circular economy, sustainable food systems, and social inclusion. Impact is central to all investments, and the foundation aims to achieve positive societal impact rather than financial profit. The foundation is fully owned and managed by the DOEN Foundation, which is the fund of the Dutch Postcode Lottery, the BankGiro Lottery, and the FriendsLottery. This structure allows DOEN Participaties to support innovative solutions to social challenges and accelerate transitions towards a sustainable and inclusive society.
