Douglass Karp

Overview

As President of New England Development, Douglass Karp oversees all aspects of the firm's operations, including site acquisition, financing, permitting, planning, design, construction, and leasing. He manages the company's retail and mixed-use development projects and collaborates closely with its affiliated companies, such as White Elephant Resorts, MarketPlace Development, The Pinehills, Newburyport Development, and Old Sandwich Golf Club. Additionally, he serves as the asset manager for White Elephant Resorts, a collection of premier hospitality and retail properties on Nantucket. Before joining New England Development in 1999, Mr. Karp co-founded Lids, a specialty retail company specializing in officially licensed and branded athletic fashion headgear. Under his leadership, Lids expanded to over 400 mall-based, airport, and street-level stores nationwide. His expertise encompasses market research, real estate development, and marketing. Mr. Karp holds a B.S. degree from Union College and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Owner/President Management Executive Education Program. He serves on the boards of Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, Boston Youth Sanctuary, Union College, and the Massachusetts chapter of NAIOP. He also serves on the Board of M.Gemi and on the Executive Board of Marcus Smart’s YounGameChanger Foundation.
