Gateway Angels is an angel investor network operating in the Liverpool City Region, providing members with access to early-stage investment opportunities that support the growth and prosperity of the city’s entrepreneurial spirit. Their mission is to fuel economic development in the region by backing ambitious entrepreneurs with smart capital from accredited angel investors. They strive to identify high-potential start-ups and facilitate investments that drive innovation, create jobs, and generate exceptional returns. The network focuses on early-stage companies with strong growth potential, particularly those developing innovative solutions across sectors such as technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, digital, and cleantech. Their angels typically invest at the pre-seed and seed stage, with investment rounds generally ranging from £50k to £1m. Alongside capital, their investors often provide valuable experience, strategic insight, and connections to help founders accelerate their growth journey. Gateway Angels is part of the MSIF group and is a trading name of River Capital Management, which is authorised and regulated in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority. They are a key member of the UK Business Angels Association and a proud signatory of the Investing in Women Code. Their aim is to create growth for the local economy by driving opportunities for businesses and investors across the region by providing exceptional service through specialised events, workshops, and communications to ensure a growing presence.

Investment Focus

• Based in or with a strong connection to the Liverpool City Region or wider North West
• An innovative and scalable business with the potential to disrupt or significantly improve an existing market
• A capable and committed founding team with the skills and ambition to build a high-growth company
• A clear business model and route to market demonstrating how the company will generate revenue and scale
• SEIS or EIS eligible investment, where possible
• A fair and justifiable valuation aligned with the company’s stage of development
• A clear long-term vision and potential exit pathway for investors
• A minimum viable product (MVP) and/or early signs of market validation, such as pilot customers, partnerships or initial traction
