He began his career as a blackjack player and later studied economics at the University of Vienna. In the 1980s, he founded QuantRes, which specializes in proprietary quantitative trading strategies and global private investments. The firm is headquartered in Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas. QuantRes has made significant investments in various sectors, including technology and financial services. Notably, McPike invested £75 million in Starling Bank, a UK-based digital bank, in 2016. He has also invested in companies such as Addepar, a portfolio management platform, and miPic, an art and photo platform. Additionally, McPike has been involved in investments through Sage Technologies, a venture capital firm based in the United Arab Emirates. Beyond his investment activities, McPike has pursued adventurous endeavors, including a $7 million deposit in 2014 for a lunar orbit trip, which was later settled in 2019. He owns the 164-foot hybrid yacht 'Home' and has lived aboard it. McPike is married to Joann McPike, the founder of Think Global School, and they have a son, Alexander McPike.
