Harold E. Doley, Jr. is an American investment banker and founder of Doley Securities, LLC, the nation's oldest African American-owned investment banking firm. He is the only African American to have owned a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, which he acquired in 1973. Doley began his professional career in investment banking in 1968, serving as Vice President with major Wall Street firms before establishing his own firm in 1975. Doley Securities, LLC has been housed for over five decades in the Doley Building located in the central business district of New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2003, Doley took emeritus status from the firm. In addition to his investment banking career, Doley has held significant roles in public service. From 1983 to 1985, he served as the United States Executive Director to the African Development Bank and Fund, becoming the first African American to hold this position. He also chaired the investment committee of the Southern Africa Enterprise Development Fund, a private equity fund, and played a pivotal role in placing the first black market maker on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Doley has been involved in various community and public service initiatives, particularly focusing on education and sustainable development in Africa.
