Overview

Hive Colab, established in 2010, is Uganda's premier innovation hub and startup incubator dedicated to nurturing technology entrepreneurship in East Africa. The organization offers a comprehensive suite of services, including business development support, mentorship, technical training, community meet-ups, co-working spaces, and startup incubation and acceleration programs. Hive Colab focuses on critical sectors such as fintech, healthtech, agritech, edtech, and technology for governance, aiming to build local tech capacity and scale ideas with positive social and economic returns. Under the leadership of co-founder and Executive Director Barbara Birungi Mutabazi, Hive Colab has developed strategic partnerships with organizations like Microsoft, Intel, Google, and the U.S. State Department, raising over $1 million to support its operations and startups. The hub has also signed contracts with entities such as the British Council, Demo Africa, Palladium, Uganda Communications Commission, U.S. Embassy in Kampala, Indigo Trust, Hivos, Geneva Global, Seacom, and Google. Hive Colab's initiatives, such as the Youth Startup Academy Uganda (YSAU), have been instrumental in empowering young entrepreneurs and promoting economic development in the region. The organization continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology entrepreneurship in East Africa, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth.
