InfraCo Africa
Overview
InfraCo Africa is a development finance institution that invests in infrastructure projects across sub-Saharan Africa. It originates, develops, structures, and manages projects, reducing risk and supporting their progress from early stage through to operation. The aim is to create a pipeline of bankable projects, ready to attract private capital and generate sustainable impact. InfraCo Africa also makes equity and other forms of investment into operational businesses and aggregated platforms that allow capital deployment at scale. It is part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), a donor-funded, privately managed project development company. InfraCo Africa has invested over US$300 million, supporting 40 projects and businesses, achieving 35 financial closes, mobilizing US$1.5 billion, and benefiting over 12 million people. Recent projects include Supamoto in Zambia, Vungu Solar in Zimbabwe, Kong Solaire in Côte d'Ivoire, and Mawingu I & II in Kenya and Tanzania. The company operates offices in London, Nairobi, and Casablanca, and is managed by a Board of industry leaders. It receives funding from the PIDG Trust, which is supported by the governments of the UK, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. InfraCo Africa prioritizes projects that have the potential to deliver a positive developmental impact and be commercially viable but need risk capital and expertise to become bankable and attract private sector investment.
