Overview
The Interchain Foundation (ICF) is a Swiss-based non-profit organization dedicated to advancing open-source, decentralized blockchain infrastructure. As the steward of the Cosmos ecosystem and IBC, ICF funds research, development, and community initiatives to drive the future of the interchain economy. ICF's mission is to support the development and adoption of the Interchain Stack, a software suite for building Layer 1 blockchains, including IBC, Cosmos SDK, Comet BFT, CosmWasm, and CosmJS. Through grants, investments, and ecosystem stewardship, ICF is shaping a new technological paradigm that is open-source, interoperable, and community-owned. In December 2024, ICF acquired Skip, a blockchain solutions provider, to internalize development of the Interchain Stack and drive user and liquidity growth for the Cosmos Hub and the wider Cosmos ecosystem. This strategic acquisition aims to accelerate ICF's mission to make Cosmos and the Interchain Stack the most accessible, developer-friendly, and widely adopted blockchain ecosystem. ICF is also committed to supporting advocacy initiatives that promote the development of responsible regulatory environments for blockchain technology. It is a proud member and supporter of various global advocacy groups, including the Blockchain Association, Coin Center, the European Crypto Initiative (EUCI), the Proof of Stake Alliance, and the Canadian Web3 Council. Through its various programs and initiatives, the Interchain Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the Cosmos ecosystem and fostering the growth of the interchain economy.
