Jeffrey Tarrant was an American investor and founder of Protégé Partners, a firm specializing in seeding and early-stage investing in hedge funds. He co-founded Protégé Partners in 2001, focusing on identifying and supporting emerging hedge fund managers. Under his leadership, the firm grew to manage approximately $1.6 billion in assets by 2016. Tarrant was also known for his early investments in notable hedge fund managers, including John Paulson, who gained fame for his successful bet against the subprime mortgage market. In addition to his work at Protégé Partners, Tarrant was involved in various philanthropic activities. He served on the board of WITNESS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to human rights, and was a director of ARK US, the U.S. affiliate of Absolute Return for Kids, a charity focused on transforming the lives of children. Tarrant's commitment to social issues extended to his support for documentary films addressing social challenges. Tarrant passed away on August 5, 2019, at his home in Bridgehampton, New York, after a battle with brain cancer.
