JJ Chai is the CEO and co-founder of Rainforest, an e-commerce brand aggregator headquartered in Singapore. Rainforest specializes in acquiring and scaling Asia-based brands that sell on Amazon, focusing on categories such as home goods, personal care, and pet products. The company aims to provide well-deserved exits for brand owners and enhance the growth of their brands through a world-class team. Prior to founding Rainforest, JJ held several leadership positions in prominent companies. He was the Senior Vice President of Growth & Strategy at Carousell, a leading online marketplace in Southeast Asia. Before that, he served as the Managing Director of Southeast Asia & India and Head of APAC Host Operations at Airbnb, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and expanding Airbnb's presence in the region. JJ also worked at McKinsey & Company as a junior partner and began his career as a product manager at Buildfolio Technologies. JJ is an active angel investor, supporting startups in Southeast Asia. His investment portfolio includes companies like Intellect, a mental health startup, and Unravel Carbon, a decarbonization platform. He has also invested in The Wild Ventures, a house of sustainable brands, and Ottodot, a company that secured $1.65 million in seed funding in October 2025. His investments span various sectors, including artificial intelligence, information technology, and real estate, with a focus on early-stage companies in Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia.
