Overview

The John C. Goff Real Estate Investment Fund is a unique student-managed investment fund at the University of Texas at Austin, providing MBA and undergraduate students with practical experience in real estate investing. This multi-million-dollar fund allows students to manage both public and private real estate investments, preparing them for careers in real estate finance and investment. The fund is part of the Texas Real Estate Center at the McCombs School of Business, which serves as a hub for real estate education, research, and industry engagement. Students involved in the fund participate in all aspects of the investment process, including underwriting, asset management, and reporting. The program is distinctive in that it is the only business school in the country where students have the opportunity to manage a fund with both public and private real estate investments as part of their coursework. Faculty members and an Advisory Board act as mentors, guiding students in their investment underwriting and analysis, while an outside Investment Committee oversees the fund's performance. The fund was established with a significant donation from John C. Goff, a private investor based in Fort Worth, Texas. Goff co-founded Crescent Real Estate and founded Goff Capital Partners, and has been actively involved in supporting real estate education at the University of Texas. His contributions have enabled the fund to provide students with real-world training in investment strategy, financial modeling, and portfolio management, building direct connections to industry professionals and preparing them for careers in real estate investment, development, and capital markets.
