John Simon

Overview

John Simon is a managing director at Sigma Prime Ventures, focusing on software-based and disruptive technology businesses, often engaging with companies at their formation or earliest stages. Prior to joining Sigma Prime in 2012, he co-founded General Catalyst Partners, where he was responsible for investments in both new and existing technology businesses. Before his venture capital career, John was the founder, chairman, and CEO of UroMed Corporation, which went public in 1994 and later merged to form Alliant Medical Technologies. He holds a BA in History and Science from Harvard University and an MA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. John's portfolio includes companies such as Jumptap, Paydiant, OwnCloud, Big Fish Games, BetterLesson, Mocospace, Thumb, Swirl, Swoop, CyPhy Works, BionX, Aidin, TearScience, Fractyl, Corvia Medical, and OvaScience. He is also a co-founder and trustee of The Steppingstone Foundation, a non-profit organization providing educational opportunities to inner-city students, and the GreenLight Fund, which supports innovative non-profits.
