Karl T. Ulrich

Overview

Karl T. Ulrich is an angel investor and Vice Dean of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He holds the CIBC Endowed Professorship in Entrepreneurship and e-Commerce and is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship, and product development. He has co-authored textbooks such as 'Product Design and Development' and 'Innovation Tournaments.' In addition to his academic roles, Ulrich has co-founded several initiatives, including the Weiss Tech House and the Integrated Product Design Program, both aimed at fostering innovation within the university community. He has also led numerous innovation efforts across various industries, resulting in over 20 patents. Ulrich earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ulrich's entrepreneurial ventures include co-founding Terrapass Inc., recognized by The New York Times as one of the most noteworthy ideas of 2005, and designing the Xootr scooter, which Business Week named one of the 50 coolest products of the 21st Century. He has served as a Senior Advisor to the Dean, Asia at The Wharton School and has been involved in various initiatives to promote innovation and entrepreneurship globally.
