Overview

Established in 2012, the Korea Angel Investment Association (KBAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering angel investors and supporting the growth of venture and startup companies in South Korea. Its mission is to create a vibrant and official angel investment ecosystem by connecting accredited angel investors with promising startups. The association operates under the auspices of the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) and has been instrumental in promoting angel investment activities across the nation. KBAA's primary focus is on early-stage investments, encompassing seed funding, Series A and B rounds, and growth-stage investments. The association actively manages the Angel Investment Matching Fund, which aims to encourage angel investments by providing matching funds to individual investors. Additionally, KBAA oversees the operation of regional angel investment hubs, facilitating localized investment opportunities and supporting startups in various regions of South Korea. These hubs play a crucial role in alleviating the concentration of investments in the Seoul metropolitan area and promoting regional economic development. In June 2025, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups designated KBAA as a public interest organization, reflecting its significant role in the national economy and its commitment to transparency and accountability. This designation subjects the association to internal audits and ensures that its operations align with public interests. Under the leadership of President Cho Min-sik, appointed in February 2025, KBAA continues to enhance its support for startups and angel investors, striving to become a trusted organization that contributes to the advancement of the startup ecosystem in South Korea.
