Established in 2016, the center focuses on fostering innovation in agriculture, the largest sector and employer in these countries. By providing tailored programs that include skills training, mentorship, and seed funding, the center aims to transform agricultural practices and create sustainable economic growth. The center's investment strategy emphasizes early-stage support, offering up to $50,000 in pre-seed funding to promising startups. This approach is designed to nurture innovative solutions in the agritech and foodtech sectors, addressing challenges such as food security, sustainable farming practices, and market access. Through its programs, the center has trained over 58,000 young leaders in business skills and entrepreneurship, contributing to the development of a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. Kosmos Innovation Center operates with a distinctive focus on commercial solutions informed by local knowledge. By collaborating with local staff and private sector experts, the center ensures that its initiatives are tailored to the unique needs and opportunities within each country. This localized approach has led to the successful incubation of numerous startups, many of which have secured additional funding and expanded their operations, thereby creating jobs and driving economic development in the region.
