Overview

LU Ventures is Lund University's dedicated venture builder, working closely with researchers to establish and finance spin-out companies that translate academic research into practical applications with global impact. By validating ideas, building teams, and providing equity, LU Ventures de-risks early stages and accelerates the journey to market. To date, their comprehensive support has helped over 150 startups grow, collectively attracting more than 14 billion SEK in venture capital. Operating as a venture builder rather than a traditional pre-seed investor, LU Ventures begins collaboration early in the ideation stage, often before a company is incorporated. Together with LU Innovation, they guide research projects through the Business Track, acting as strategic co-founders. Their role includes validating business concepts, establishing corporate structures, attracting external capital, and building initial teams and boards. Following incorporation, they continue to support the company's development through board engagement, follow-on investments, and access to their network. LU Ventures' portfolio includes companies like SAGA Diagnostics, which focuses on personalized cancer care guided by tumor DNA, and ALIXLABS, which specializes in shrinking semiconductor components. Their approach emphasizes a founder-friendly model, remaining committed shareholders in their companies and supporting them through all critical stages of development, from conception to impact.
