Overview

The Innovation Impact Investment Portfolio is an initiative by Macmillan Cancer Support, a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by cancer. This portfolio focuses on investing £3.5 million by the end of 2025 in start-up businesses developing groundbreaking cancer care products and technologies. The aim is to play a critical role in transforming the lives of people with cancer and to inspire other organizations and investors to support innovation in cancer care. The portfolio's strategy involves collaborating with partners such as the Health Innovation Network and NHS England's network of innovation agencies to identify investment opportunities with the greatest potential for people with cancer. The advisory group, chaired by Macmillan Trustee Rachel Higham, supports decision-making regarding which cancer care innovations to invest in and advises on the future direction of the portfolio. Since its inception, the portfolio has made several investments, including in 52 North Health, which developed Neutrocheck®, a device for assessing patients' risk of neutropenic sepsis; Lucida Medical, whose AI platform enhances prostate cancer detection; Leo Cancer Care, which offers pioneering upright radiotherapy technology; OXcan, focusing on early lung cancer detection using advanced proteomics and AI; and Perci Health, providing personalized, on-demand rehabilitation and survivorship support from leading specialists. These investments reflect Macmillan's commitment to advancing innovative solutions in cancer care.
