Madhvani Group

Overview

Established in 1914, the Madhvani Group has grown into one of the largest private-sector conglomerates in East Africa, employing over 10,000 people. The group has a substantial presence in agriculture and agro-processing, including sugar-cane, tea, and floriculture. It also operates in sectors such as sugar production, sweets and confectioneries, packaging, matches, and steel manufacturing. In the services sector, the group is involved in hotels and tourism, insurance, information technology, media and communications, construction, and distribution of industrial products and consumer durables. The group's flagship company, Kakira Sugar Works, is the largest sugar producer in Uganda, with a crushing capacity of 4,000 tons of cane per day. The Madhvani Group has expanded its operations beyond Uganda, with investments in Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, the Middle East, India, and North America. The group's assets in Uganda are valued in excess of USD 1 billion, with several units undergoing major expansion.
