Overview

Established in 2001, Malaysia Venture Capital Management Berhad (MAVCAP) is Malaysia's largest venture capital company investing in the technology industry. As a government-backed entity under the purview of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, MAVCAP has a portfolio value of almost RM1.0 billion in the funds that the firm and its private sector partners manage. MAVCAP has been championing the Government’s mandate by developing local VC talent, creating local VC companies, and attracting foreign VCs and funding into Malaysia. MAVCAP typically invests in companies between seed to late stages in the ICT sector and other high-growth industries. Its portfolio includes a number of fast-growing companies, including Stripe (Online payment infrastructure), WORQ (Co-working space), FashionValet (Online retail platform), Fave (Mobile payments and rewards application), Kaodim (Home servicing provider booking platform), and EasyParcel (Online parcel delivery booking platform). In July 2024, Khazanah Nasional completed the acquisition of MAVCAP, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. This strategic move aims to strengthen Malaysia’s venture capital ecosystem and improve public institutions, aligning with key objectives of the Malaysia MADANI Budget 2024. Following the acquisition, MAVCAP is expected to enhance the coordination and centralization of government resources, facilitating efforts to advance Malaysia’s startup ecosystem and bolster its regional competitiveness.
