Overview

Matt Clifford is a prominent UK-based angel investor and co-founder of Entrepreneur First (EF), a global talent investor and startup accelerator. EF focuses on identifying and supporting exceptional individuals to build technology companies from scratch, with a portfolio valued at over $14 billion. Under Clifford's leadership, EF has expanded its presence to multiple countries, including the United States, India, France, Singapore, Germany, Canada, Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Israel, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Turkey, Argentina, and Chile. In addition to his role at EF, Clifford has been actively involved in artificial intelligence initiatives. In 2023, he was appointed as the UK's Prime Minister's Lead Representative for the inaugural AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park. Following the publication of the AI Opportunities Action Plan in January 2025, he was appointed the Prime Minister’s Adviser on AI Opportunities, a role he held until June 2025. He has also served on the boards of Code First Girls, which he co-founded, the Kennedy Memorial Trust, and Innovate UK. Clifford's contributions to business and technology have been recognized with several honors, including an MBE in 2016 for services to business and a CBE in 2024 for services to AI.
