Matthew Cohen

Overview

Matthew Cohen is an experienced angel investor and EdTech sales and marketing leader specializing in identifying opportunities and driving revenues. He is the founder and managing director of Cohen Strategy Group, LLC, a consultancy focused on growing companies that seek to transform and improve the education landscape. Under his leadership, the firm collaborates with innovative companies, national foundations, and state-based organizations to design and implement strategies aimed at increasing post-secondary completion and labor market success, particularly for low-income youth and working adults. Prior to founding Cohen Strategy Group, Cohen served as a founding member of the executive leadership team at ConnectEDU, a leading EdTech company focused on youth transitions. He played a pivotal role in expanding the company's reach from four to forty states and growing academic partners from twelve to over 1,600, representing more than one million student end-users. At ConnectEDU, Cohen was instrumental in securing $40 million in venture capital investments by establishing a track record of company successes. Earlier in his career, Cohen served as the Senior Advisor for Strategic Alliances & Initiatives for the NYC Economic Development Corporation under Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. He also founded and secured institutional funding for the internet's first consumer-facing college and financial aid advisory platform. Cohen began his public service career as Director of Field Operations for U.S. Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro, where he also served a tour on Capitol Hill. He holds a degree in Political Science from The George Washington University and has completed programs at Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation for Senior Executives and Berkeley Law's Executive Program on Sustainable Capitalism.
