McCombs Real Estate Investment Fund

Overview

The McCombs Real Estate Investment Fund (REIF) is a student-managed investment fund at the University of Texas at Austin, providing MBA and undergraduate students with hands-on experience in real estate investing. The fund focuses on both public and private real estate investments, including Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and private equity real estate opportunities. Students participate in all aspects of the investment process, including underwriting, asset management, and reporting, under the guidance of faculty members and an advisory board. The fund is managed by a team of five to eight MBA portfolio managers from the Real Estate MBA program, supported by ten to fourteen undergraduate analysts selected from McCombs undergraduate finance majors. Faculty members and an advisory board act as mentors, guiding students in their investment underwriting and analysis. An outside investment committee continually oversees the fund's performance. The REIF is unique in that it is the only business school in the country where students have the opportunity to manage a fund with both public and private real estate investments as part of their coursework.
