Michael Volker

Overview

Michael Volker is an entrepreneur and angel investor specializing in the development of new high-technology ventures. A graduate of the University of Waterloo with degrees in engineering, he founded Volker-Craig Ltd in 1973, which he sold in 1981. Since then, he has been actively involved in supporting early-stage technology companies through various initiatives. He currently serves as the CEO of the Western Universities Technology Innovation Fund (WUTIF), an angel fund dedicated to startups, and is the President of the Vancouver Angel Network (VANTEC). Additionally, he is the Chapter President of the Vancouver/British Columbia chapter of the Keiretsu Forum, a global network of accredited investors. In 2009, Michael was recognized as the Canadian Angel Investor of the Year by the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) and as the B.C. Angel of the Year by the B.C. Angel Forum. His commitment to fostering technology entrepreneurship is further demonstrated through his role as a director of Simon Fraser University's Innovation Office and his involvement with New Ventures BC, an annual business competition. He has also been a director and past-chairman of the Vancouver Enterprise Forum. Michael's investment focus is primarily on early-stage technology ventures, particularly those in the green technology sector. Through his leadership at WUTIF and VANTEC, he has been instrumental in providing mentorship, funding, and strategic guidance to numerous startups, contributing significantly to the growth and success of the technology industry in Canada, especially in British Columbia.
