Overview

MINTS, the Michigan Investment in New Technology Startups, is a venture capital program managed by the University of Michigan's Investment Office. Established in 2011, MINTS invests in startups that commercialize technologies developed within the university, aiming to foster innovation and economic development. The program has invested over $32 million across 27 startups, demonstrating its commitment to supporting entrepreneurial ventures. The program focuses on a diverse range of industries, including technology, healthcare, biotechnology, software, semiconductors, medical devices, clean technology, consumer products, education, media, telecommunications, energy, financial services, automotive, and aerospace. MINTS provides funding at various stages, from seed to late-stage investments, with individual investments ranging from $500,000 to $20 million. This flexibility allows the program to support startups as they grow and scale. MINTS operates alongside other university initiatives, such as the Michigan Biomedical Venture Fund and the Social Venture Fund, to create a comprehensive ecosystem for nurturing startups.
