Overview

Mission Investment Fund (MIF) is a financial ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) that offers financing and investment opportunities to congregations, ministries, and individuals. MIF provides loans for church building projects, land purchases, and refinancing, as well as investment options for personal savings, retirement, and education accounts. By investing in MIF, individuals and organizations support the growth and development of faith-based initiatives and community services across the United States. MIF's investment strategy focuses on fixed-income securities, offering competitive rates and terms to investors. The funds raised through these investments are utilized to finance building and renovation projects for ELCA congregations and partner ministries, including outdoor camps, senior housing, and social service agencies. This approach ensures that investments directly contribute to the expansion and enhancement of spaces for worship, education, and community service. With a longstanding tradition of strength and stability, MIF maintains a capital ratio of 26.88 percent, positioning it among the top tier of well-capitalized church extension funds. As of December 31, 2023, MIF had 811 loans outstanding, totaling $578.3 million, and investment obligations totaling $547.7 million.
