Overview

The Missouri Technology Corporation (MTC) is a public-private partnership established by the Missouri General Assembly to foster entrepreneurship and support the growth of new and emerging high-tech companies within the state. MTC focuses on 21st-century bioscience industries that build upon Missouri's rich agricultural history. Governed by a 15-member board of directors appointed by Missouri's Governor, Speaker of the House, and President Pro Tem of the Senate, MTC's mission is to provide leadership and make strategic investments that help entrepreneurs create and grow technology-based businesses in Missouri. MTC operates the Innovation, Development, and Entrepreneurial Advancement (IDEA) Fund, which promotes the formation and growth of businesses engaged in the transfer of science and technology into job creation. The fund provides venture capital-based financing to eligible businesses through three programs corresponding to various stages of growth: pre-seed capital stage financing, seed capital stage financing, and venture capital stage financing. Funding decisions are made quarterly through a multi-tiered, competitive application process. Over the past decade, MTC has invested over $45 million into nearly 140 early-stage Missouri-based high-growth technology-focused companies, which have collectively raised over $1.1 billion in additional private capital. In addition to its investment activities, MTC collaborates with over 60 non-profit organizations across Missouri, investing more than $29 million in entrepreneurial-focused infrastructure projects that have served thousands of small businesses statewide. This comprehensive approach underscores MTC's commitment to driving economic development and fostering a thriving ecosystem for technology-based businesses in Missouri.
