Overview

Established in 2015, the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIF) is a sovereign wealth fund owned by the Government of India. It serves as a collaborative investment platform for both domestic and international investors, focusing on infrastructure and related sectors within India. NIIF manages approximately $5 billion in capital commitments across four distinct funds, each with its unique investment strategy. The funds include the NIIF Master Fund, which primarily invests in core infrastructure and operating assets; the NIIF Private Markets Fund, which invests in funds managed by third-party managers in infrastructure and associated sectors; the NIIF Strategic Opportunities Fund, which invests and develops large-scale businesses and greenfield projects of strategic importance; and the India-Japan Fund, a bilateral fund investing in environmental preservation and facilitating collaboration between Indian and Japanese companies. NIIF's mission is to catalyze capital into the country and support its growth needs across sectors of importance, contributing to the development of world-class infrastructure in India. The Government of India anchors the NIIF funds with a 49% commitment, while the remaining 51% is sourced from large global institutional investors such as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Temasek, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and AustralianSuper, as well as domestic financial institutions like HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank. NIIF's investments span various sectors, including infrastructure, real estate, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, transportation, logistics, energy, water, industry, health, education, communication and digital infrastructure, municipal projects, and energy transition. The fund's strategic focus is on sustainable value creation through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, investing in businesses and assets that generate positive social and environmental impact while delivering superior financial returns.
