Ntsimbintle Holdings
Overview
Established in 2003, Ntsimbintle Holdings is a prominent mining investment firm specializing in manganese mining and related activities. The company was formed by nine Black South African groups to pursue manganese mining opportunities in South Africa. Over the years, Ntsimbintle Holdings has grown from a junior miner to the majority shareholder of Tshipi Borwa, South Africa's largest manganese mine and ore exporter. The company's portfolio includes significant assets such as Ntsimbintle Mining, Mokala Manganese, Hotazel Manganese Mines, and Khwara Manganese. Ntsimbintle Mining holds a 50.1% stake in Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining, which operates the Tshipi Borwa Mine in the Northern Cape. This mine is one of the largest manganese producers in South Africa, with production exceeding three million tonnes of manganese ore annually. In May 2025, Ntsimbintle Holdings agreed to sell its manganese portfolio to Exxaro Resources for R11.67 billion. This transaction includes the sale of Ntsimbintle's majority holding in the Tshipi Borwa mine, marking a significant milestone in the company's strategic journey. The completion of the transaction is expected in early 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions. Ntsimbintle Holdings is committed to black economic empowerment and community development. The company has a 39.66% interest held by Safika Resources, a subsidiary of Safika Holdings, and other shareholders include 13 community members, women, and entrepreneurial entities based mostly in the Northern Cape. The John Taolo Gaetsewe Developmental Trust, established to uplift local communities, is the company's second-largest shareholder with a 14.47% interest. Through its strategic investments and commitment to empowerment, Ntsimbintle Holdings has played a pivotal role in the South African mining sector, contributing to the growth and development of the manganese industry in the region.
