Peter Johnston

Overview

Peter Johnston is a seasoned Australian mining executive with over 35 years of experience in operational and project development roles. He has held senior positions in several prominent mining companies, including serving as Managing Director and CEO of Minara Resources Pty Ltd from 2001 to 2013. During his tenure, he was responsible for overseeing nickel and gold operations, as well as managing Olympic Dam operations and Queensland Fertilizers Ltd. Prior to this, he was Executive General Manager at WMC Ltd, where he managed nickel and gold operations, Olympic Dam, and human resources. His extensive background also includes leadership roles at Lion Nathan Australia and Alcoa of Australia. In 2013, Mr. Johnston was appointed Global Head of Nickel Assets for Glencore International AG, overseeing nickel-cobalt mine and processing facilities across multiple countries, including Australia, Canada, the Dominican Republic, New Caledonia, and Norway. He was a member of Glencore's Executive Management Committee during this period. After retiring from Glencore in December 2015, he continued to contribute to the mining industry through various board positions. He served as Interim CEO of Tronox Limited in 2017 and has been a Non-Executive Director of Tronox Holdings plc since 2012. Additionally, he has been a Non-Executive Chairman of Jervois Global Limited, a leading cobalt minerals, metals, and chemicals company, and has held directorships at Red 5 Limited and Vault Minerals Limited.
