Play Future Fund is a venture capital firm dedicated to early-stage investments in blockchain and metaverse gaming projects. The firm operates as a fund for early-stage blockchain and metaverse gaming, aiming to support companies that integrate crypto-native solutions into gaming experiences. Their investment strategy includes providing initial checks typically ranging from $500,000 to $5,000,000, supporting promising studios and infrastructure companies from their nascent stages. The firm has demonstrated significant growth and commitment to the sector through the successful raising of multiple dedicated funds. This includes their inaugural Fund I at $40 million, followed by Fund II and Fund III, each securing $135 million. Notably, they also launched the Play Ventures Future Fund, a $75 million vehicle specifically for early-stage blockchain gaming ventures. Their latest achievement is the closing of Fund IV in March 2024, which raised an additional $150 million, bringing their total assets under management to approximately $535 million across all funds. Play Future Fund has made several investments in the blockchain gaming space, including Community Gaming, a tournament-organization platform that uses blockchain and NFT prizes; ReNFT, an NFT lending and renting protocol; and GuildFi, a DAO focused on Play-and-Earn games and guild management. The firm is led by partner Kenrick Drijkoningen, who has been investing in gaming companies since 2012 and previously ran Lunex Ventures, a blockchain and cryptocurrency fund. The Play Future Fund is supported by the rest of the Play Ventures team, which has been investing in game companies since 2018.
