R. Brad Martin

Overview

R. Brad Martin is an American businessman and investor, recognized for his leadership in the retail and logistics sectors. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of FedEx Corporation and is the Chairman of RBM Ventures, his family office. Martin retired as Chairman and CEO of Saks Incorporated in 2007 after nearly 20 years at the helm. Under his leadership, Saks Incorporated became one of the largest retail enterprises in the United States, with peak annual revenues exceeding $6 billion. He was the lead investor in RBM Acquisition Company, which acquired Proffitt's Incorporated in 1984, and later merged it with Saks Holdings to form Saks Incorporated. Martin has also held significant leadership roles on the boards of public companies, including First Horizon National Corporation, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., and Pilot Travel Centers. He served as a director of lululemon athletica during its successful IPO and was its Lead Director for five years. Additionally, Martin served as the non-executive Chairman of Chesapeake Energy Corporation, overseeing its governance practices and management team during a period of significant change. He currently serves on the boards of FedEx Corporation and WestRock Coffee Company. Martin is involved in philanthropic activities through the Martin Family Foundation, supporting various not-for-profit interests. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He is also the co-author of the book 'Five Stones: Conquering Your Giants' and author of the children's book 'Myles' Pesky Friends'.
