Overview

Rajeev Chandrasekhar is an Indian entrepreneur and politician, best known as the founder of Jupiter Capital, a private investment firm established in 2005. The firm manages assets exceeding $1 billion, with investments spanning technology, media, hospitality, entertainment, and infrastructure sectors. Jupiter Capital has been instrumental in building and exiting several successful ventures, including StarAsianet, India's first private investment in container train services, and many others. Prior to founding Jupiter Capital, Chandrasekhar was a key player in India's telecom sector, having founded BPL Mobile in 1994, which became one of the country's major telecom companies. In 2005, he sold his 64% stake in BPL Communications to Essar Group for over $1.1 billion. In addition to his entrepreneurial pursuits, Chandrasekhar has been actively involved in politics. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2018, representing Karnataka. During his tenure, he was a member of various parliamentary committees, including those on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Real Estate bills. In 2018, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was appointed as the state president of BJP Kerala in 2025. He has also held positions as the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti. Chandrasekhar's philanthropic efforts are notable. He founded the Flags of Honour Foundation, which supports the families of armed forces martyrs, and the Namma Bengaluru Foundation, which works to improve civic and administrative conditions in Bengaluru. Through these initiatives, he has demonstrated a commitment to social causes alongside his business and political endeavors.
