S. Somasegar

Overview

S. Somasegar is a seasoned venture capitalist and former Microsoft executive with a focus on early-stage technology investments. As Managing Director at Madrona Venture Group, he leads investments in areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cloud infrastructure. Prior to joining Madrona in 2015, Somasegar had a 27-year career at Microsoft, where he was Corporate Vice President of the Developer Division, overseeing products like Visual Studio and .NET. He has been an active angel investor, supporting companies like Highspot, Buuteeq, Amperity, and Discord. Somasegar holds a master's degree in computer engineering from Louisiana State University and a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from Guindy Engineering College, Anna University in Chennai, India. He also received an honorary doctorate from Anna University for his contributions to technology and computer science. Somasegar is passionate about empowering and educating girls globally and supports women's education and empowerment initiatives. He is also part owner of the Seattle Sounders FC and the Seattle Orcas, the Major League Cricket team launched in 2023.
