Sandy Sigal

Overview

Sandy Sigal is an American entrepreneur and investor specializing in real estate and retail sectors. He is the founder, chairman, chief executive officer, and president of NewMark Merrill Companies, a privately held developer and owner of shopping centers in California, Colorado, and Illinois. Under his leadership, NewMark Merrill has grown to own and manage over 90 shopping centers, representing a collective value exceeding $2 billion. The company's portfolio includes notable centers such as Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks, West Hills Shopping Center, and Del Amo Plaza in Cerritos. In addition to his role at NewMark Merrill, Sigal serves as chairman of BrightStreet Ventures, a company he co-founded to integrate online platforms with traditional brick-and-mortar businesses. He is also an active member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), where he has held various leadership positions, including Network Chair of the Real Estate Network and Regional Membership and Engagement Officer for the Pacific Region. Sigal has been recognized with several awards, including the EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award in 2016 and the YPO Terry Plochman Award in 2025. Sigal's early career began at the age of 12 as a programmer and software developer for personal computers. He later joined West Venture Companies, a Southern California-based homebuilder, where he founded West Venture Commercial, the commercial retail division. In 1997, he left West Venture to co-found NewMark Merrill Companies, purchasing the company's retail assets, including 15 retail centers and four development projects. Since then, Sigal has acquired, developed, and managed over 100 additional retail centers, solidifying his reputation as a leader in the real estate and retail investment sectors.
