Overview

Established in 2000, Shell Foundation is an independent UK-registered charity dedicated to alleviating poverty in Africa and Asia by supporting clean energy solutions that raise incomes while reducing emissions. The foundation focuses on three core groups: smallholder farmers, transporters, and micro-entrepreneurs, aiming to enable tens of millions of people to increase their incomes and lower emissions by 2032. To achieve its mission, Shell Foundation fosters innovation and scales technologies that benefit these groups. It partners with industry leaders to de-risk new technologies and markets, driving innovation towards scale. The foundation emphasizes gender inclusivity, ensuring that its initiatives empower both women and men equally. Shell Foundation operates with financial independence, governed by an endowment managed by its board of trustees. It maintains a mixed board of trustees, including a majority of leading figures from sectors relevant to international development, an independent Chair, and senior Shell leaders. This governance structure ensures the foundation's operations align with its charitable objectives and maintain its independence from Shell plc.
