SkyDeck LSEC Bio Track

Overview

SkyDeck LSEC Bio Track is a specialized accelerator program within Berkeley SkyDeck, established in partnership with the UC Berkeley Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Center (LSEC). This initiative aims to support UC Berkeley faculty-led teams in launching biotech and life sciences startups by providing them with essential resources and funding. Each selected startup receives a minimum of $200,000, comprising a $100,000 academic translational grant from LSEC and a $100,000 investment from the SkyDeck Fund, with an option for an additional $100,000 investment. The program offers startups access to Berkeley SkyDeck’s extensive network, including mentorship from over 600 advisors, 60 live entrepreneurship classes, investor introductions, and a well-attended demo day. Additionally, team members participate in BioEng 153/253, a Biotechnology Entrepreneurship course, to further develop their skills in launching and managing new companies. The inaugural cohort in May 2023 included AsparaGlue, Editpep, and MZR Neurotech, all of which have since progressed in their respective fields. SkyDeck LSEC Bio Track continues to expand its support for life sciences startups, with recent cohorts featuring companies like HypO2Regen Therapeutics, which received a $200,000 venture grant in June 2025. This ongoing commitment underscores the program's dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the life sciences sector, leveraging UC Berkeley's resources and expertise to bring groundbreaking research to market.
