SMAIT has been involved in significant investment activities, including a resolution plan for Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd, approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in June 2019. The plan involved an investment of approximately Rs 400 crore. Additionally, the trust has faced regulatory scrutiny; in October 2021, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) accepted the surrender of SMAIT's registration as a mutual fund, leading to its cessation as a mutual fund entity. Despite this, SMAIT continues to operate as an AIF, managing a diversified portfolio across various sectors in India.
