The Stanford Sustainable Investment Group (SSIG) is a student-run investment advisory at Stanford University, established to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world sustainable investing. SSIG partners with leading venture capital firms to provide students with hands-on experience in climate technology, sustainable finance, and impact investing. Through its Analyst program, SSIG selects and trains a group of students annually to collaborate with top investors, working on projects that address critical questions in climate innovation and sustainable finance. This program offers students unparalleled exposure to the future of climate innovation by working closely with industry leaders and developing valuable industry connections that will benefit them throughout their careers. SSIG's mission is to accelerate climate solutions by supporting top climate investors through diligence, sourcing, and market analysis. The organization aims to train the next generation of students to think like impact-driven investors and operators. By engaging with SSIG, students gain practical experience in sustainable investing, preparing them for careers in climate technology and sustainable finance. The group also fosters a community of like-minded individuals passionate about sustainability and innovation, creating a platform for collaboration and learning. Founded by Samir Chowdhury, SSIG was created to provide students with opportunities to meaningfully explore careers in sustainability, technology, and venture capital. After his tenure at The White House Council on Environmental Quality, Samir recognized the need for a dynamic and innovative community on campus where students could engage with experiential investing, networking, and mentorship opportunities. What started as an idea has grown into the nation's first undergraduate-run investment advisory for sustainable investors, composed of nearly 150 students across various disciplines at Stanford University. Today, SSIG continues to support leading sustainability investors and train the next generation of impact-driven leaders in the field of sustainable investing.
