Stephanie von Friedeburg

Overview

As a Managing Director at Citi, Stephanie von Friedeburg leverages her extensive background in infrastructure and project finance to support sovereign clients' national agendas and private client needs. She is a respected partner and trusted advisor to a global network of senior decision-makers in governments, public and private corporations, and non-governmental entities. Her extensive knowledge of global affairs and emerging markets informs her assessment of investment opportunities in fluid economic environments. Prior to joining Citi, Ms. von Friedeburg served as the Chief Operating Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where she led all investment operations and advisory services, managing a $60 billion debt and equity portfolio across more than 100 countries. Her priorities included increasing opportunities for women, scaling up investments to combat climate change, and promoting digital development. Ms. von Friedeburg's career spans nearly three decades at the World Bank Group, where she developed strong expertise in Africa and Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in sectors such as telecommunications, media, manufacturing, and technology. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School, a Master of Arts from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, and an undergraduate degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She is also a member of the Global Business Advisory Board for the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. Her leadership and contributions have been recognized by various organizations, including being named to Yahoo’s 2021 Heroes 100 List for driving change and increasing gender diversity in the workplace, and receiving CIO Magazine’s CIO 100 Award for Outstanding Business Technology Leadership in 2015 and 2017. Ms. von Friedeburg is an advocate for the advancement of women and a champion of diversity and inclusion, serving as Co-Chair of IFC’s Diversity & Inclusion Council and founding women's networks at two international finance institutions.
