Overview

Sugar & Allied Industries Limited (SAIL), also known as Kaliro Sugar, is a prominent sugar manufacturing company based in Uganda. Established in 2011, SAIL aims to meet the regional sugar deficit and achieve 100% sugar self-sufficiency for Uganda. The company operates a state-of-the-art plant in Kaliro District, strategically located between Lake Kyoga and Lake Victoria, which commenced operations in 2013. The plant has a capacity to crush 2,500 tonnes of sugarcane per day, producing approximately 78,000 tonnes of sugar annually. Additionally, it generates 12 megawatts of electricity, some of which is utilized internally, while the surplus is supplied to the national grid, contributing to the country's energy needs. SAIL employs over 1,500 staff members and collaborates with 4,000 registered out-growers who cultivate sugarcane on 25,000 acres, thereby supporting the local economy and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The company is committed to corporate social responsibility initiatives, including building a modern community hospital, improving regional infrastructure, and enhancing educational opportunities for children in the area.
